Apple announced its "Wonderlust" launch event on September 12, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. PT (10:30 p.m. IST). Aside from the iPhone 15 Series, the event is expected to introduce the Apple Watch 9 Series, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and other products.
AirDrop, a wireless feature by which iPhone users can share files mutually and instantly, was introduced with iOS 7. It is one of the most favored means for transferring photos, videos, documents, and more to nearby Apple devices for free. In iOS 17, Apple brings several new updates for AirDrop to make it more powerful. Let's go for it.
One of the most exciting features based on AirDrop is called NameDropm, a way to exchange contact cards only by closing two devices. Both phone numbers and email addresses can be shared. It will display with Contact Poster, another fantastic feature on the Phone App in iOS 17.
NameDrop is not only available for two iPhones but also for A nearby Apple Watch. But the feature works between iPhone can early access in iOS 17, while that works for an Apple Watch will later this year, according to Apple.
New Way to AirDrop Files
Before iOS 17, sharing photos, videos, or files by AirDrop required manually selecting the person via the Share Sheet. Sometimes you need to know their names first in case of mistaken transferring. In iOS 17, the same gesture for NameDrop is also available for AirDrop files. Just simply bringing their iPhones together, the sharing process will be finished.
Over the Internet to Finish AirDrop
Apple says that late this year, people can continue to transfer files even out of the AirDrop range. It is different from the way it works currently, by which currently people have to stay close enough in order to transfer files successfully. Once some of them leave the AirDrop range, the transfer will stop and contents won't be shared. Note that you and your recipient should be signed in to iCloud.
SharePlay over AirDrop
Activity can be shared via SharePlay instantly if two iPhones are close together. Both two of you can watch the same content, listen to the same music, play games in sync, and do more things together with SharePlay.
Explicit Image Blurring
iOS doesn't prevent random users from sharing a photo or document with your iPhone. But regardless of whether you wish to see it or not, AirDrop always shows a preview of the suggested shared material on your device's screen. People had been exposed to unwanted naked and explicit photographs as a result of this. Apple is implementing a new opt-in feature that would automatically blur photographs received through AirDrop that can contain sensitive information, such as nudity, to stop this in iOS 17. By tapping the "Show" button, the information can be viewed while being blocked.
